Georges Elhedery (born 1973 or 1974) is a Lebanese banker, who has been the chief executive (CEO) of HSBC since February 2025, having succeeded Noel Quinn.[2]
Early life
Elhedery was born in Beirut, Lebanon.[1][3] His father was a banker, and his mother a teacher.[3] He earned a degree in engineering at the École Polytechnique in Paris, followed by a postgraduate degree in statistics and economics from the École Nationale de la Statistique et de l'Administration Économique.[3][4]
Career
Elhedery worked for Goldman Sachs from 2001 to 2005, before joining HSBC.[5] He moved to Dubai, where he became Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey CEO for the bank.[6] In 2022, Elhedery took a six-month sabbatical to learn Mandarin, and rejoined HSBC as its chief financial officer.[5][7]
As of February 2025, Elhedery earns a total of $6.8 million in annual compensation from HSBC.[8]
