Visible on the airfield runways are a Douglas R4D, two Consolidated PBY-5A Catalinas, and several Lockheed PV-1 Venturas. Elements of squadrons assigned to Tarawa in March 1944 included VP-52, VP-72, VP-102, VB-142, and VB-144.
