AODocs was established in the US in 2012 by French entrepreneur Stephan Donze. It aimed to tap into the potential of consumer-grade cloud technology to build a platform that combines ease of use with security and compliance. The company positioned itself as an alternative to traditional DMS providers like IBM FileNet, Documentum, and Microsoft SharePoint.[2] It is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia and has offices in Paris, Milan and Budapest. As of January 2025, it employs a staff of 250.

Industry applications

The platform serves enterprise clients from various industries, enabling companies to manage document workflows[3] in some of the following use cases:

  • Government: Automating records management and approvals.
  • Construction: Enhancing project collaboration and document sharing.
  • Manufacturing: Simplifying compliance and operational documentation.
  • Finance and Insurance: Streamlining claims and meeting regulatory requirements.
  • Life Sciences: Managing research and regulatory documentation.

Company history and development

AODocs initially focused on providing a cloud-native alternative to legacy systems.[4] The platform was created to simplify document workflows and introduce scalable solutions without compromising document security or compliance.[5]

With time, the company prioritized document management integration with key business applications[6] like SAP, Salesforce, and Workday. These integrations may help businesses to unify document management with their existing tools, enhancing operational efficiency and streamlining processes.

The platform lets organizations control their files while using their cloud storage providers of choice.

With the introduction of Gen AI tools, AODocs now focuses on processing unstructured data at scale, automating tasks such as claims management and document reviews, and workflow optimization.[7]

Products

As well as its main document control features the company also sells DMS product features such as:

  • Generative AI assistants for controlled information categorization, retrieval and processing.
  • Quality Management (QMS) for CAPA, audit, and supplier management.
  • Policies and procedures' lifecycle control.
  • Content assembly features: document generation and assembly, and template control.
