On June 15, 2025, at 3.30 p.m. IST (10:00 UTC), the main iron spans of the Kundmala bridge across the Indrayani River in the Pune district of Maharashtra, India collapsed causing the deaths of at least 4 people and injuries to more than 51 others.[1][2]
Background
Kundmala is popular local tourist specially in the monsoon season. A bridge over Indrayani River was built around 1993 between Shelarwadi and Indori village only for pedestrians, but two-wheelers frequently used it.[3] Locals had raised concerns about its weakening structure over the years.
Accident
At the time of the collapse, there were five motorcycles and several pedestrians on the bridge.
