Kenneth Tiong Boon Kiat (Chinese: 张文杰; pinyin: Zhāng Wénjié; born 1988 or 1989) is a Singaporean politician. A member of the Workers' Party, Tiong has been the Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Serangoon division of Aljunied GRC since 2025.[2]

Early life

Tiong attended Raffles Institution and Raffles Junior College. In 2014, Tiong completed his studies at Brown University and received a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics-Computer Science and Philosophy.[1]

Career

Tiong worked as a Business Analyst at McKinsey & Co. (2014–2016), followed by a stint at Millennium Management (2016–2018) as a Quant analyst. Tiong later went on to Brahman Capital (2018–2022) and served as Head Quant Developer and Portfolio Manager. He was the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at a tech startup (2022–2023). Since 2023, he has been the Director of Sensemake.ai, a news intelligence platform.[3]

Political career

Tiong began volunteering with the Workers’ Party (WP) in 2023, contributing to the Policy team and assisting in East Coast GRC and Aljunied GRC. In late 2023, he became a member of the WP. From May 2024, he served as Legislative Assistant to Leader of the Opposition, Pritam Singh, and from January 2025, he took on the role of Serangoon Coordinator. [1]

Tiong made his political debut and contested in the 2025 General Election in Aljunied GRC alongside Pritam Singh, Sylvia Lim, Gerald Giam, and Fadli Fawzi and was elected with 59.71% of valid votes.[4][5]

Tiong was appointed as the Vice - Chairman of the Aljunied—Hougang Town Council (AHTC) since 2025 serving alongside with Dennis Tan on 2 June 2025.

Personal life

Tiong is married with two children.[6]
