"As-Salam al-Malaki" (Arabic: السلام الملكي, literally "Peace be upon the King") was the former national anthem of Kingdom of Iraq from 1924 to 1958. It was a Royal Salute.

History

It was composed by Iraqi Army Band director Lieutenant A. Chaffon in 1924, a British military officer.[1]

Unofficial lyrics

The author is not clear. But there has been evidence from Iraqi monarchist that used lyrics like this.[2]

The lyrics are concise and formal, fitting the role of a Royal Salute rather than a comprehensive national anthem. Phrases such as "هيا اهتفوا عاش الملك" (Come, proclaim: Long live the King) encourage public expressions of devotion through song and flag-raising. The lack of clarity about the lyricist may stem from limited documentation following Iraq’s political upheavals after 1958. Nevertheless, the surviving lyrics remain a cherished legacy for monarchist communities, evoking the Hashemite era’s grandeur.
